In this invigorating study of the history of forms, British pianist
Benjamin Grosvenor explores the relationships between revered classic
masterworks. His reading of Busoni’s transcription of Bach’s masterful
Chaconne in D minor fleshes out the sonic possibilities and wonders of a piece long considered the benchmark for solo violin writing.
Benjamin Grosvenor made an impression on audiences as an 11-year-old, becoming
the youngest winner of the BBC”s Young Musician of the Year in the
keyboard division in 2004. In 2011, he became the youngest British
musician to sign with Decca, and was also the label”s first British
pianist signed since the 1950s. In the intervening years, Grosvenor made debuts in New York and London, and performed with the London
Philharmonic, the Brazilian Symphony, and the Tokyo Symphony. He
continued to add to his “youngest” distinctions by becoming the youngest soloist to date to open the 2011 BBC Proms concert season. His debut
album featured the music of Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel. Grosvenor
frequently performs solo recitals and also maintains his interest in
chamber music.
